Leaping Joy

Praise be to the Lord, for he has heard my cry for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. ~ Psalm 28:6, 7

David was facing a deadly peril.

We are not sure what it was, but his enemies from within or from without were evil and did not have God’s best in mind. So David prays for deliverance.

In fact, he does not just shoot up a quick prayer. Rather, he pleads with God to hear him and save him.

Before the Lord even answers, David is exuberant with the confidence of just being heard! Read verses 6 and 7 again.

The Lord has not yet actually delivered David and his people from the difficulty they face, but David is already leaping for joy because he knows beyond any shadow of doubt that God has heard his request and will intervene on his behalf. When was the last time your prayer of request included a shout of joy and an exclamation of “Thank you, Lord!?”

After you lift a burden to God for His deliverance do you ever jump to your feet and energetically – with lots of body language – give a shout of praise?

“Praise God! Thank You for hearing me and acting on behalf of Your Kingdom!”

Lord, You know this concern and the anxiety I bring to You today. I need You to intervene and answer my prayer. My trust is in You! And, Lord, my dancing heart and dancing feet express my deep joy in knowing You have heard me and will only act with my best interest in mind! Hallelujah! Amen!
